Hey neighbor! It has been a lively week around here. Our first communal dinner meetup on Tuesday was super fun and it was great meeting everyone at the bar afterwards. Such an easy group to chat with! Also, a big shoutout goes to Keetick, who hosted a business Thanksgiving potluck on 82nd Street with a really impressive bunch of small business owners and new entrepreneurs. If you run a business, I highly recommend following the Queens Success Collective on Instagram and making it to their next monthly meeting where we all share business tips and advice. And for anyone new to Jackson Heights, the newcomers event this Wednesday is shaping up to be a big one. We upgraded the venue because so many people signed up, and we will have Jim from Open Streets, Mitra from Epicenter NYC, Adrian from World Borough Bookshop and of course Keetick sharing a few words about what makes this neighborhood special. Sami from Elements is even chipping in with pizza and lemonade, and we will have welcome packs too! Since the demand is so high, we are now keeping RSVPs for newcomers only, but everyone is invited to meet later at a post event social at a great new bar up the road (RSVP for social details here). Even some of the Queens Distance Runners will be joining after their Wednesday run! Now must before we jump into the events, one more thing! We are putting together a fun community guide to the neighborhood and it is open to everyone to check out or add your suggestions to. You can take a look and add your own tips here: jhtip.com/guide Ok, enough of me yapping. Here is what is coming up next! A weekly roundup of the best events, markets, and happenings in and around Jackson Heights. Perfect for neighbors who want to stay in the loop and support local life.
Hey you. Yes, you, reading the neighborhood email! If you are new to Jackson Heights, new-ish, or just wondering how everyone else seems to know each other, you are in the right place. Our newcomer meetup is happening this Monday, and it is all about meeting kind humans and picking up local wisdom. This one will have an artsy twist, with the folks from the Jackson Heights Mural project joining us. Speaking of neighbors and creative projects, this week we also launched Voices of Jackson...
Hey neighbor, It's a new year, we've got a new mayor in town, and yes - the old MetroCards are officially out. 2026 showed up, and Jackson Heights welcomed it like an old friend. Happy Noon Year kicked things off early with a daytime party full of music, dancing, kids, and parents pretending they were “just supervising.” It was such a joyful scene that it even got love from CBS news: Then later that night, wificita and I wondered over to the Queensboro and before we knew it, dinner turned...
Hey neighbor, The new year is almost here, but first we have to survive this cold - the kind of weather that makes even the pigeons look confused. The good news is you do not need to freeze on a train to Manhattan to celebrate! The party is right here in the neighborhood. Local spots like Himalayan Yak, D’Antigua, Queensboro, Café Salamanca, Parrilladas Sunrise, La Ruana Paisa, Salvaje Social Club, El Maguey, Terraza 7, and more are all gearing up for New Year’s Eve. There are so many...
