🥟 Feb 10–16: Crafts, Laughs, and Local Culture in Jackson Heights

Hey neighbor!

This week felt like a great reminder of how much culture and community is packed into our corner of Queens. I caught Viñedos at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, a powerful Mexican traditional dance performance full of color and energy.

Fun fact. The executive director there is Andrew Ronan, a longtime Jackson Heights resident. And KC Trommer, another local neighbor, helps lead marketing and community engagement at Flushing Town Hall. Turns out we are quietly surrounded by people doing really meaningful work in the arts! A full list of arts and culture venues in Queens is coming soon.

On a more everyday note, I stopped by Seba Seba on Northern Boulevard the other day, which has been open for 38 years! They just refreshed the interior and it looks great. Exposed brick walls, Colombian-style window details, and a perfect spot for coffee or pastries.

One important reminder. If you have ever thought about getting involved locally, you can apply to serve for the community board here before applications close on the 13th. In case it helps, I uploaded six years of Queens Community Board 3 meeting minutes and transcripts into NotebookLM, so you can look up what has been discussed over the years.

Knowledge is power! And fun is next. Let’s get into the events happening around the neighborhood.

Thank you to Nancy Cardenas!

They’re now part of the small but mighty group
keeping the Jackson Heights Insider alive...

... and yes, supporters get the fun extras

If you read this every week and would miss it if it disappeared,
this is how you keep it around.

Hey neighbor, Something’s in the air… and no, it’s not just pollen (although, yes, definitely that too). 🌸 The neighborhood is waking up. Flowers are making their annual comeback tour, trees are showing off a little, and 37th Avenue has officially slowed down to “let’s just take a lap” speed. You can feel it—spring has entered the chat. Suddenly, every errand feels optional and every walk feels like a scene. Photo Credit: Lo Ro And last night had a bit of that same energy. Hey neighbor! You know what I love about this neighborhood? You can sit down at a restaurant with five people you have never met, and by the time the check comes you are making plans to hang out again. That is basically what happened at last week's Dinner Club. Several tables out across Jackson Heights, and then everyone converged at Nancy Blake's afterwards. Photos below. If that sounds like your kind of night, our next Dinner Club is Tuesday, April 28th. Sign up at...
